A full-time Chinese Medicine Assistant is mainly responsible for – (a) performing the duties of licensing of Chinese medicines traders and registration of proprietary Chinese medicines; (b) performing adverse drug reaction monitoring on Chinese medicines, investigation of Chinese medicines poisoning cases and related duties; (c) monitoring licensed Chinese medicines traders, Chinese medicines products and related work; (d) performing import and export control of Chinese herbal medicines and proprietary Chinese medicines and related work; (e) performing the duties of identification of Chinese herbal medicines and proprietary Chinese medicines; (f) answering public enquiries related to licensing of Chinese medicines traders and registration of proprietary Chinese medicines; and (g) assisting in performing other work assigned by senior officers. A part-time Chinese Medicine Assistant is mainly responsible for – (a) processing the transitional registration of proprietary Chinese medicine to formal registration and related duties; (b) handling applications for the renewal of the registration of proprietary Chinese medicines and related work; and (c) assisting in performing other work assigned by senior officers. (Remarks: Working venues and hours may vary depending on operational needs of the Department. Full-time Chinese Medicine Assistants may be required to work shift. Part-time Chinese Medicine Assistant are normally required to work less than 18 hours per week, mostly falling between 9:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m. on Mondays to Sundays and public holidays.).

Candidates should – (a) have a Hong Kong bachelor degree in Chinese Medicine, or equivalent; (b) preferably have one year’s relevant post-qualification working experience; (c) attain ‘Level 2’ or above in Chinese Language and English Language in the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination or the Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination (HKCEE), or equivalent (Notes i & ii); and (d) be able to speak fluent Cantonese.
