A Contract Translator is mainly deployed to -

• (a)translate documents of the department, Legislative Council documents, and other documents as assigned from Chinese to English and vice versa;
• (b)vet the translations and drafts prepared by other staff members;
• (c)provide professional advice on the use of Chinese and English; and
• (d)provide support in other duties in relation to the provision of translation and other language services in the department.

Candidates should:

• (a)have a bachelor degree from a Hong Kong university, or equivalent;
• (b)have at least 8 years’ full time work experience in translating Chinese into English or vice versa;
• (c)meet the language proficiency requirement of Level 2 results in the two papers (Use of Chinese and Use of English) in the Common Recruitment Examination (CRE) or equivalent (please refer to note

• (d)have sound knowledge of Chinese and English word processing.
