(a) To assist in checking building plans, and inspecting building works, including minor works and drainage works of private developments and licensed premises; (b) To assist in carrying out inspection of buildings and slopes, surveying defects, repair works and unauthorised building works, investigating sources of water seepage, arranging issue of statutory orders / notices / directions, and supervising works, including emergency cases, carried out by the government contractors; (c) To prepare working drawings and cost estimates, to assist in records management and statistical collation of building information, as well as providing assistance in appeal, prosecution and disciplinary proceedings; and (d) To assist in public education and publicity on matters relating to building safety, Minor Works Control System, Mandatory Building Inspection Scheme and Mandatory Window Inspection Scheme. [Note: Successful candidates appointed are required to perform outdoor duties, may be required to work shifts or irregular hours, may be required to perform duties during tropical typhoons, rainstorms and other emergencies and may be seconded to other government departments.]

(a) Had a Diploma or Higher Certificate in Building Studies, Building Surveying or Building Technology from a Hong Kong Polytechnic / Polytechnic University, the Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education or technical institute / college, or equivalent; and (b) Met the language proficiency requirements of Level 2 or above in Chinese Language and English Language in the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination (HKDSEE) or the Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination (HKCEE), or equivalent [Note(1)].
