An Electrical and Mechanical Engineer is deployed to work in one of the following areas : (a) Hong Kong Accreditation Service (HKAS) - Provide technical and administrative assistance in the implementation of accreditation programmes particularly in areas where electrical, electronic or mechanical measurement or engineering expertise are required; co-ordinate or perform on-site assessments of laboratories, certification bodies or inspection bodies. (b) Standards and Calibration Laboratory (SCL) - Take charge of one or more laboratories of SCL in the development and maintenance of measurement standards as well as the provision and improvement of calibration services, particularly in mechanical metrology fields; promote and disseminate metrology knowledge and calibration techniques to industry; liaise with international metrology organizations and participate in international metrology activities; supervise and train technical staff on standards and calibration work. (c) Science Advisor’s Team – (i) carry out the assessment of electrical and mechanical research and development projects applications under the Innovation and Technology Fund; prepare materials on their applications to the relevant projects vetting panels and Technology Committees; and monitor the implementation of the approved projects and dissemination of their results to the relevant industry sectors; (ii) assist in the consultation with the Foundation Industry on its technological needs; and (iii) keep abreast of technological development in electrical and mechanical engineering.

Candidates should – (a) be Corporate Members of the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (Electrical/Electronics/Mechanical/Manufacturing and Industrial Discipline) elected after December 1975 or equivalent [see Note (1) and (2)]; and (b) have met the language proficiency requirements of “Level 1” results in the two language papers (Use of Chinese and Use of English) in the Common Recruitment Examination (CRE), or equivalent [see Note (3), (4) and (5)].
