The successful candidate will be responsible for –
(a)assisting the Secretary for Justice to consider and develop strategies to take forward the recommendations of the Working Group on Mediation taking into account the outcome of the public consultation exercise;
(b)advising and assisting the Secretary for Justice in furthering the development of mediation in Hong Kong; and
(c)undertaking other duties as may be assigned from time to time.
(i)be solicitors admitted in a recognised jurisdiction* as stipulated under Section 2A and Schedule 2 of the Legal Officers Ordinance with at least 10 years' professional and/or relevant academic experience in law in Hong Kong or any one of the below-mentioned jurisdictions# since admission; or
(ii)be barristers with at least 11 years' professional and/or relevant academic experience in law after attaining a right to full practice in a recognised jurisdiction* as stipulated under Section 2A and Schedule 2 of the Legal Officers Ordinance, and with at least 10 years of such experience attained in Hong Kong or any one of the below-mentioned jurisdictions#;
(b)have good communication and interpersonal skills; and
(c)have strong command of written and spoken English. An ability to speak, read and write Chinese would be an advantage. Experience in mediation work would be an advantage. Persons who are not permanent residents of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region may also apply but will be appointed only when no suitable and qualified candidates who are permanent residents are available. * The recognised jurisdictions are Hong Kong, the United Kingdom, the States and Territories of the Commonwealth of Australia, the Territories and Provinces of Canada (except Quebec), New Zealand, the Republic of Ireland, Zimbabwe and Singapore. # The jurisdictions include Hong Kong, the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada (except Quebec), New Zealand, the Republic of Ireland, Zimbabwe and Singapore.
