(a) To enforce and administer the Buildings Ordinance and allied legislation; (b) To inspect buildings and prepare reports for rectification of unauthorized building works, building defects, defective drains, fire safety deficiencies and irregularities; (c) To perform enforcement duties including serving of statutory orders to effect removal of unauthorized building works, repair of defective buildings and drainage, rectification of fire safety deficiencies and irregularities; (d) To examine rectification proposals for compliance of statutory orders; (e) To supervise works carried out by Buildings Department contractor in default of statutory orders, to take site measurements and to check accounts for payment; (f) To take prosecution actions to effect removal of unauthorized building works, including case analysis and documentation, collation of evidence, preparation of charges and conducting prosecution in courts; (g) To deal with enquiries from building owners and occupants. [Note: Successful candidates appointed may be required to perform duties within / outside office hours during typhoons, heavy rainstorms and other emergencies.]

(a)(i) A degree or diploma recognized for exemption from all pre-professional qualifications written examinations of the HKIS (Building Surveying Division), and 1 year’s recorded and recognized professional experience approved by the HKIS; or (ii) A degree in Architecture accepted for sitting for the HKIA Examination, and 1 year’s recorded and recognized professional experience approved by the HKIA; or (iii) Have satisfied the academic requirement for Corporate Membership of the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (Structural, Civil or Building Discipline) or have qualification being recognized by the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE) as equivalent; and have 1 year's practical training and / or experience satisfying the training requirements for Corporate Membership of the HKIE (Structural, Civil or Building Discipline) or of other professional institutes recognized by the HKIE as equivalent; and (b) met the language proficiency requirements of Level 2 or above in Chinese Language and English Language in the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination (HKDSEE) or the Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination (HKCEE), or equivalent.
