The Senior Veterinarian is mainly deployed on (a) providing in-house training and development for veterinary grade officers; (b) giving advice on the establishment of equine disease free zone in Conghua, Guangzhou; (c) liaising with overseas veterinary colleges; (d) designing and organizing the veterinary students placement programme; (e) conducting risk analysis and in-depth research on specific subjects; and (f) performing any other such duties as directed by Assistant Director (Inspection and Quarantine) and Principal Veterinary Officer. (Note: May be required to work irregular hours and shifts; be posted to other departments such as Food and Environmental Hygiene Department and Leisure and Cultural Services Department; work in areas outside Hong Kong Special Administrative Region; work and/or live in the New Territories; and drive a departmental vehicle.)

The candidate should have (a) a veterinary qualification registrable in Hong Kong under the Veterinary Surgeons Registration Ordinance, Cap. 529 (note), or equivalent; (b) at least 10 years’ post-qualification working experience; and (c) preference will be given to candidates who can read and write Chinese and can speak Cantonese and Putonghua.
