Successful candidates will be appointed to work in the Legal Services Branch of the Land Registry and expected to:

• (a)provide legal advices relating to registration of instruments under the Land Registration Ordinance, and registration of owners’ corporations under the Building Management Ordinance;
• (b)handle litigation and potential litigation matters of the Land Registry and legal matters in connection with the Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance;
• (c)assist in the post-enactment review of the Land Titles Ordinance;
• (d)conduct legal researches and keep track of the related legislation in Hong Kong and the latest development on title registration, processing of registration applications and related procedures in foreign jurisdictions; and
• (e)perform other duties as may be assigned by senior officers.

Candidates should:

• (a)be qualified solicitors or barristers in a recognized jurisdiction as stipulated under Section 2A and Schedule 2 of the Legal Officers Ordinance (Cap 87);
• (b)have at least 6 years’ post-qualification experience in land law and conveyancing of landed properties. Substantial experience in legal researches and writing of legal advice and familiarity with conveyancing practice and procedures in Hong Kong are clear advantages. Familiarity with the legislative process in Hong Kong would also be an advantage;
• (c)meet the language proficiency requirements of Level 3 or above in Chinese Language and English Language in the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination or the Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination (HKCEE), or equivalent.

(Note: For non-civil service appointment purpose, ‘Grade C’ in Chinese Language and English Language (Syllabus B) in previous HKCEE are accepted administratively as comparable to ‘Level 3’ in Chinese Language and English Language in the 2007 HKCEE and henceforth.); and (d) be fluent in English and Cantonese.
