To be deployed to the Policy Affairs Unit 1, the China Law Unit or any other Units in the Legal Policy Division of the Department of Justice. Subject to the Department’s operational needs, the postholder is expected to engage in the following work – <br>

• (a)preparation and promotion of bills and legislation under the policy carriage of the Department, drafting papers for the Legislative Council, conducting research and providing legal support in the study of legislative and policy proposals; or <br>
• (b)providing support in legal co-operation arrangements with the Mainland and other parts of the Cross Strait Four Regions in civil and commercial matters (including cross-border insolvency matters), promoting Hong Kong’s international legal and dispute resolution services in the Mainland, and conducting research and providing legal support and advice on Mainland law matters; and <br>
• (c)undertaking any other duties that may be assigned from time to time.

Candidates should

• (a)
  • (i)be solicitors with at least 6 years’ professional experience since admission in Hong Kong or any one of the recognised jurisdictions as stipulated under Section 2A and Schedule 2 of the Legal Officers Ordinance; or
  • (ii)be barristers with at least 7 years’ professional experience since attaining the right to full practice in Hong Kong or any one of the recognised jurisdictions as stipulated under Section 2A and Schedule 2 of the Legal Officers Ordinance; and
• (b)have attained Level 2 or above in English Language and Chinese Language in the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination (HKDSEE) or the Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination (HKCEE), or equivalent

(Note: For non-civil service appointment purpose, Grade E in English Language (Syllabus B) and Chinese Language in the HKCEE before 2007 are accepted administratively as comparable to Level 2 in English Language and Chinese Language in the 2007 HKCEE or henceforth.). Candidates with less working experience (a minimum of 4 years’ professional experience for solicitors or 5 years’ professional experience for barristers) may also apply. Candidates with a minimum of 4 years’ professional experience for solicitors or 5 years’ professional experience for barristers but lower than the stipulated entry requirements, if selected, will be offered a salary at an appropriate level lower than HK$112,250 per month.
