To be deployed in the Legal Policy Division of the Department of Justice to assist in conducting research and providing legal service support in relation to various types of petitions and statutory appeals, judicial reviews against determinations made by the Torture Claims Appeal Board, ex gratia payment applications (made by persons who have spent time in custody following a wrongful conviction or charge), petitions under section 83P of the Criminal Procedures Ordinance (Cap. 221), surrender of a fugitive to a requesting jurisdiction, preparation and promotion of bills under the purview of the Department of Justice, as well as any other duties that may be assigned from time to time.

Candidates should

• (a)
  • (i)be admitted as solicitors in a recognized jurisdiction as stipulated under Section 2A and Schedule 2 of the Legal Officers Ordinance or
  • (ii)be barristers with one year’s professional experience since attaining the right to full practice in a recognized jurisdiction as stipulated under Section 2A and Schedule 2 of the Legal Officers Ordinance; and
• (b)have attained Level 2 or above in English Language and Chinese Language in the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination (HKDSEE) or the Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination (HKCEE) or equivalent

(Note: For non-civil service appointment purpose, ‘Grade E’ in English Language (Syllabus B) and Chinese Language in previous HKCEE is accepted administratively as comparable to ‘Level 2’ in English Language and Chinese Language in the 2007 HKCEE or thereafter).
