Duties of Post (1): An Animal Management Inspector (Antimicrobial Resistance Surveillance Section) is mainly deployed on (a) communicating with farmers including answering enquiries, collecting antimicrobial use record and arranging farm inspections; (b) assisting Veterinary Officers in conducting surveillance programmes for antimicrobial use and antimicrobial resistance on local food animal farms; (c) organizing seminars to farmers and public to promote prudent and responsible use of antimicrobials; (d) liaising with contractors about the design and production of publicity materials and provision of advertising services and supervising them to run publicity events; (e) assisting in proper acquisition, recording expenditures in accordance with Government regulations; (f) assisting in collection and compilation of statistics and (g) performing any other such duties as directed by supervisors.

Duties of Post (2): An Animal Management Inspector (Quarantine) is mainly deployed on (a) leading Quarantine Detector Dogs to various land border control points, international airport and any other location to detect illegal import and export of animal and animal products carried by passengers, luggage, vehicles and parcels; (b) taking care, grooming and training of Quarantine Detector Dogs; (c) assisting in investigation of and prosecution procedures relevant to illegal import and export of animal and animal products; (d) assisting in preparation of investigation reports, processing data and maintaining records; (e) performing any other such duties as directed by supervisors; and (f) driving government vehicles when necessary.

The applicant should have (a)(i) a diploma or higher certificate in Agricultural Science, Animal Science / Husbandry, Biology, Applied Biology, Applied Science in Animal Management or Animal Welfare, Chemistry, Applied Chemistry, Ecology, Environmental Studies, Science or Environmental Management from a Hong Kong polytechnic or university or Institute of Vocational Education / technical college / institute, or equivalent; or (ii) a recognised diploma from an agricultural or forestry school/college, or equivalent, and one year’s practical experience in farming or countryside/flora/wildlife management; and (b) met the language proficiency requirements of Level 2 (Note) or above in Chinese Language and English Language in Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination (HKDSEE) or Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination (HKCEE), or equivalent. Preference would be given to candidates with a valid driving licence.
(Note: ‘Grade E’ in Chinese Language and English Language (Syllabus B) in the HKCEE before 2007 are accepted administratively as comparable to ‘Level 2’ respectively in Chinese Language and English Language in the 2007 HKCEE and henceforth.)
