A Senior Telecommunications Engineer is mainly deployed on (1) overseeing the operation of telecommunications and related systems in the Department to ensure compliance with the prescribed performance standard, including the management of the relevant maintenance contracts/service agreement; (2) undertaking planning and development for telecommunications and related systems, including feasibility studies, research and evaluation of telecommunications technologies and applications to improve the capabilities and performance of relevant systems in the Department, preparation of designs, specifications, work plan etc. for telecommunications and related projects; (3) undertaking budgetary planning and control for telecommunications and related systems of the Department, including the preparation of estimates and technical proposals for fund bidding, project management, infrastructural facility redevelopment and asset management; and (4) providing professional advice and engineering support on all telecommunications and related issues. [Note: May be required to work irregular hours and overnight duties on an ad hoc basis, and may be required to attend duties during typhoons, Rainstorm Black Warning and other emergencies.]

(1) be Corporate Members of the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (Electronics or Electrical Discipline) elected after 5 December 1975, or equivalent; (2) have a minimum of 10 years’ post-qualification experience in project management of large scale and complex electronics and Information Technology systems in which at least 5 years should be in a supervisory position; and (3) have met the language proficiency requirements of ‘Level 1’ results in the two language papers (Use of Chinese and Use of English) in the Common Recruitment Examination (CRE), or equivalent Note(1).
