職責
高級小輪船長主要職責是：
(a) 負責操作及駕駛大型或較精密的船隻，並確保航行安全；
(b) 操作船上一切機械、電動和其他設備，以及管理其使用情況；
(c) 確保燃油、潤滑油和有關物料使用恰當；
(d) 遇有機電故障，進行小型修理；如屬嚴重故障，則向上級呈報，並備存工作日誌；以及
(e) 督導小輪船員。
[註：高級小輪船長須穿著制服，並須輪班／不定時工作。]

A Senior Launch Master is mainly deployed on –
(a) taking charge of the operation, navigation and safety of large vessels or more sophisticated vessels;
(b) operating and managing the use of all mechanical, electrical and any other equipment on board;
(c) ensuring proper use of fuel, lubricating oil and related materials;
(d) conducting minor repairs on electrical and mechanical defects, reporting major defects and maintaining logbook; and
(e) supervising launch crew.
(Note: A Senior Launch Master is required to wear uniform and work shifts/irregular hours.)

(b) 能閱讀簡單中文和英文；
(c) 能書寫簡單中文或簡單英文；
(d) 達到海關關長所訂的視力標準，以便在船上執行瞭望職務及協助繫泊及靠泊船隻；
(e) 諳泳術並能在沒有輔助的情況下一次過游畢50米；以及
(f) 持有船長一級證明書和輪機操作員一級證明書。

Candidates should –
(a) be able to communicate in Cantonese/Chinese and simple English;
(b) be able to read simple Chinese and simple English;
(c) be able to write simple Chinese or simple English;
(d) have eyesight standard up to the level laid down by the Commissioner of Customs and Excise in order to perform look-out duties and assist in the mooring and berthing on board a vessel;
(e) be able to swim without aid for a distance of 50 meters at one time; and
(f) have obtained a Coxswain Grade 1 Certificate and an Engine Operator Grade 1 Certificate.

(b) 為提高大眾對《基本法》的認知和在社區推廣學習《基本法》的風氣，政府會測試應徵公務員職位人士的《基本法》知識。獲邀參加遴選面試的申請人，其對基本法的認識會在面試中以口頭提問形式被評核。只會在兩位申請人的整體表現相若時，政府才會參考申請人在基本法知識測試中的表現。
