The successful candidate should be familiar with the waste management and land contamination assessment of projects and the management of different types of wastes. The main duties will include: (a) Vet waste/land contamination assessment for the projects submitted in accordance with the EIAO required procedures; (b) Provide professional advice for ensuring that the waste/land contamination will be properly addressed in the EIA Study submissions; (c) Provide professional waste management and land contamination assessment advice on Major Planning Studies/Strategic Planning Cases (including both statutory and non-statutory), and all Town Planning Board submissions; (d) Provide advice on waste management and land decontamination of contaminated sites; (e) Vet the land contamination assessment and decontamination reports submitted by government departments and private sector in accordance with the relevant published guidance and practice notes; and (f) Provide responses to general enquiries from works contractors, private developers, general public, other government bureaux and departments, etc., regarding the disposal of waste, land decontamination and disposal of dredged/excavated marine sediment. (Note : The hours and venues of work may be varied having regard to the operational needs of the department. The successful candidate may be required to (a) work irregular hours and overtime, including evenings and weekends; and (b) work occasionally outdoors.)

Candidates should have (a)(i) Corporate Membership of the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers in relevant Engineering or Environmental Discipline admitted on or after 5 December 1975, or equivalent; and at least one year's full time relevant post qualification working experience in waste management and land contamination assessment and remediation works at an appropriate level of responsibility; [$43,540 per month] or (ii) Corporate Membership of the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers in relevant Engineering or Environmental Discipline admitted on or after 5 December 1975, or equivalent; [$41,585 per month] (b) Three years' post graduate full time relevant working experience (not necessarily obtained after membership) in waste management and land contamination assessment and remediation works; (c) Level 3 or above in Chemistry in the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination (HKDSEE), or equivalent; or Grade C or above in Chemistry in the Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination (HKCEE), or equivalent; (d) Level 2 or above in Chinese Language and English Language in HKDSEE or HKCEE, or equivalent (Note: ‘Grade C’ and ‘Grade E’ in Chinese Language and English Language (Syllabus B) in the HKCEE before 2007 are accepted administratively as comparable to ‘Level 3’ and ‘Level 2’ respectively in Chinese Language and English Language in the 2007 HKCEE and henceforth); and (e) Proficiency in Putonghua is highly desirable.
