An Economist is mainly responsible for undertaking economic analysis and research on various aspects of the Hong Kong economy, such as Hong Kong's economic growth and developments at both the macro and micro levels.

(a) (i) a 1st or 2nd class honours degree in Economics from a Hong Kong university or equivalent; or (ii) an honours degree in a subject related to Economics and a higher degree in Economics from a Hong Kong university or equivalent and (b) Level 2 results in the two language papers [Use of Chinese (UC) and Use of English (UE)] in the Common Recruitment Examination (CRE), or equivalent. [See Notes (a) to (c) below] Remarks: (i) Full-time economic analysis or related working experience will be an advantage; (ii) Candidates without the requisite results in the UC and UE papers in the CRE, or equivalent, but who have met the other entry requirements and will take the CRE to be held on 8 June 2013 and 15 June 2013 may also apply. However, no arrangement will be made by the Economic Analysis and Business Facilitation Unit for them to take the examination. Moreover, they will only be considered for appointment subject to their obtaining the requisite result in the aforesaid CRE. They should indicate “Pending result in CRE” in Section I (Public Examination Results) under “Academic Attainment” in Page 2 of their application form.
