A Waterworks Chemist is mainly deployed on

• (a)supervising the work and staff of a water science laboratory, conducting chemical, bacteriological, biological and radiological examinations, monitoring water quality, advising on monitoring and controlling of treatment works;
• (b)carrying out water analysis and investigating into various aspects of water quality or treatment problems;
• (c)undertaking radiation measurement and monitoring of water quality, advising on statutory procedures, handling of radioactive substances and radiological protection matters;
• (d)training staff in laboratory and field work; and
• (e)performing other duties as assigned by the Chief Waterworks Chemist.

Candidates should have -

• (a)
  • (i)a First or Second Class Honours degree in Chemistry from a Hong Kong university or equivalent with at least ⅔ of the total number of units or papers taken in Chemistry; and
  • (ii)two years’ relevant post-graduate experience;

OR

• (i)a First or Second Class Honours degree in Chemistry from a Hong Kong university or equivalent with at least ½ of the total number of units or papers taken in Chemistry; and
• (ii)a Master degree in Chemistry from a Hong Kong university or equivalent;

• (b)a ‘Pass’ result in the Aptitude Test in the Common Recruitment Examination (CRE) (See Note (a)); and
• (c)met the language proficiency requirements of ‘Level 1’ results in the two language papers (Use of Chinese and Use of English) in the CRE or equivalent (See Note (a)).
