驗船主任（船舶）的主要職責爲：
- (a)執行與商船有關的條例所規定的法定及其他相關職務，計有海上安全、防污、保安、海員福利和管理，當中包括調查意外事故、審核香港註冊船舶及其公司；以及
- (b)就建造新船和政府船隊維修事宜，執行政府造船工程師的職務。
註： 所有驗船主任（船舶）均須前往外地執行檢驗或審核職務。

職責
A Surveyor of Ships (Ship) is mainly deployed on:
- (a)undertaking statutory and other related duties under the Merchant Shipping Ordinances pertaining to maritime safety, pollution prevention, security, seafarers welfare and management including casualty investigations and audit on Hong Kong registered ships and their companies; and
- (b)undertaking duties as a naval architect for the Government on the construction of new vessels and maintenance of the Government Fleet.
Remarks: All Surveyors of Ships (Ship) are required to travel abroad to carry out surveys or audits.
入職條件
申請人必須：
- (a)取得海事處處長所接納的造船學或相關科技學位；
- (b)取得海事處處長所接納的造船工程師學會正式會員資格；
- (c)在取得正式會員資格後累積四年相關工作經驗。未具備所需經驗的人士亦可申請[請參閱註(2)]；以及
- (d)符合語文能力要求，即在香港中學文憑考試或香港中學會考中國語文科和英國語文科考獲第2級或以上成績，或具同等成績[請參閱註(3)及(5)]。未符合中文語文能力要求的人士，亦可申請[請參閱註(4)]。
Candidates should have :
- (a)a degree in naval architecture or related technology acceptable to the Director of Marine;
- (b)a corporate membership of a naval architect institution acceptable to the Director of Marine;
- (c)four years’ relevant experience after obtaining corporate membership. Candidates without the requisite experience may also apply [See Note (2)]; and
- (d)met the language proficiency requirements of Level 2 or above in Chinese Language and English Language in the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination (HKDSEE) or Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination (HKCEE), or equivalent [See Note
- (3)& (5)]. Candidates without Chinese language proficiency may also apply [See Note (4)].
入職條件(註)
- (1)視乎當時的情況，如申請人在取得有關資歷後，具有較多造船學的工作經驗，或會獲考慮給予增薪點。在一般情況下，按公務員條款聘請的現職海事處驗船主任的申請不會被考慮；
- (2)取得正式會員資格但未具備所需經驗的人士，亦可申請。如獲取錄，會以低於入職薪酬的適當薪點聘用。
- (3)語文能力現時未符上文入職條件(d)項的規定，但現正致力達至所需語文能力水平的人士也可申請；申請人如獲錄用，語文能力方面必須於獲聘時符合要求才獲聘任。最終未能符合中文語文能力的申請人，請參閱下述註 (四)；
- (4)未符合中文語文能力要求但符合其他入職條件的人士，亦可申請，但必須參加在二零一五年五月或八月舉行的政府中文科考試。不過，視乎海事處的運作需要，可能只有少數中文語文能力未達要求的申請人獲得聘用；
- (5)政府在聘任公務員時，2007年前的香港中學會考中國語文科和英國語文科(課程乙)E級成績，在行政上會被視為等同2007年或之後香港中學會考中國語文科和英國語文科第2級成績；以及
- (6)為提高大眾對《基本法》的認知和在社區推廣學習《基本法》的風氣，所有公務員職位的招聘，均會包括《基本法》知識的評核。申請人在基本法測試(學位/專業程度職系)的表現，會用作評核其整體表現的其中一個考慮因素，但不會影響其申請公務員職位的資格。原則上，申請人的學歷、經驗和才能仍然是考慮其是否適合被聘用的主要因素。
