A Town Planner is responsible for -

(a) preparation, revision and implementation of the territorial development strategies, statutory and non-statutory district plans, and conducting public/stakeholder engagement activities;

(b) formulation and revision of planning standards and guidelines and carrying out planning researches, studies and urban design related work either directly or through managing the work of consultants;

(c) processing development proposals and planning applications, providing professional and secretariat support to the Town Planning Board, and carrying out site searches for various purposes;

(d) undertaking enforcement actions against unauthorised development under the Town Planning Ordinance;

(e) development and application of geographic information system and information technologies to facilitate public participation and decision making;

(f) carrying out research and liaising with Mainland authorities on cross-boundary and regional development matters; and

(g) carrying out community relations, public outreach and staff development training programme, and handling public enquiries.

Candidates should have -

(a) (i) obtained Corporate Membership of the Hong Kong Institute of Planners (HKIP); or

(ii) obtained Corporate Membership of other professional town planning institutes recognised by the Director of Planning, and a pass in Part II of the HKIP Qualifying Examination;

(b) at least 1 year's appropriate working experience in the planning field after obtaining the professional qualification stated in (a);

(c) a pass result in the Aptitude Test in the Common Recruitment Examination (CRE) [see Note (A)];

(d) met the language proficiency requirements of Level 2 results in the two language papers (Use of Chinese and Use of English) in the CRE, or equivalent [see Note (A)], and be able to speak fluent Cantonese and English. Fluency in Putonghua would be an advantage; and

(e) a pass result in the Basic Law and National Security Law Test. [see Note (B)].
