A Scientific Officer is deployed to work in one of the following areas : (a) Hong Kong Accreditation Service – providing technical and administrative assistance in the implementation of accreditation programmes, including those under the Hong Kong Laboratory Accreditation Scheme, the Hong Kong Certification Body Accreditation Scheme and the Hong Kong Inspection Body Accreditation Scheme; assisting in formulation of accreditation policy; providing professional input and liaising with professionals and other relevant parties; and co-ordinating and performing accreditation assessments. (b) Biotechnology Director’s Team/Science Advisor’s Team – (i) conducting technical assessment of funding applications; providing support to the project vetting committees/assessment panels; and monitoring the implementation of the approved R&D projects; and (ii) providing technical support on technology-related matters such as preparing briefs for senior officials in attending meetings; assisting in collaboration with the academic, research and business sectors; and keeping abreast of technological development and the technological needs of the relevant industry.

Candidates should have (a) a 1st or 2nd class honours bachelor’s degree in medical technology, health sciences, life sciences, chemistry, applied physics, material science, or engineering from a university in Hong Kong or equivalent; (b) met the language proficiency requirements of “Level 1” results in the two language papers (Use of Chinese and Use of English) in the Common Recruitment Examination (CRE) or equivalent; Notes 1, 2 and 3 and (c) three years’ post-qualification experience relating to (i) laboratory, certification body or inspection body operation or accreditation of such bodies; or (ii) administration of research and development (R&D) projects in the biotechnology, environmental technology, material science or material technology related fields, or assessment of such project applications.
