A Scientific Officer (Medical) (Laboratory Service) is mainly deployed on – (a) supervision and training of Medical Laboratory Technician grade staff; (b) contribution to general management of the pathology laboratory, quality assurance, development of new methods and laboratory safety; and (c) participating in research studies, e.g. virus diseases, public health microbiological investigations, and anatomical pathology laboratory investigations. [Note: May be required to work irregular hours.]

Candidates should have – (a) (i) a Master Degree in (1) Medical Microbiology or (2) Medical Virology or (3) Anatomical Pathology or (4) Histopathology and Cytology or (5) Medical Laboratory Sciences from a Hong Kong university, or equivalent; or (ii) a Bachelor honours degree in (1) Medical Microbiology or (2) Medical Virology or (3) Anatomical Pathology or (4) Histopathology and Cytology or (5) Medical Laboratory Sciences from a Hong Kong university, or equivalent, with 2 years’ relevant post-graduate experience Note 1; and (b) met the language proficiency requirements of “Level 1” results in the two language papers (Use of Chinese (UC) and Use of English (UE)) in the Common Recruitment Examination (CRE), or equivalent Note 2).
