A Workman I is mainly deployed on – (a) Agriculture Branch : (i) manual work associated with crop farming; (ii) cleansing and general maintenance/repair work of farms/offices; and (iii) operating and maintaining farm machinery. (b) Conservation Branch and Country and Marine Parks Branch : (i) manual work associated with construction and maintenance of footpaths as well as recreational areas and facilities; (ii) tree planting, tending and felling as well as grass cutting; (iii) hill fire fighting; (iv) litter collection and disposal; and (v) collection, delivery and stocking of store items as well as cleansing and general maintenance of mechanical tools. (c) Inspection and Quarantine Branch : (i) routine work in animal rearing; (ii) handling, restraining and catching of animals; (iii) preparation and maintenance of animal catching equipment; (iv) general maintenance and cleansing work for Government premises, veterinary laboratory and vehicles; and (v) manual work associated with law enforcement activities. (d) Fisheries Branch : (i) routine work in fishing and fish rearing; (ii) maintenance of equipment and stores; (iii) manual work associated with law enforcement activities; and (iv) cleansing/general maintenance repair work of fisheries sub-stations. (Note : May be required to work in remote places with difficult access; wear uniform; work irregular hours and/or perform shift duties; and be on duty during typhoon or in inclement weather.)

Candidates should (a) have completed Primary 6 education, or equivalent; (b) have one or more of the following skills – (i) crop farming (including operation and maintenance of farm machinery); (ii) vegetation management (including operation of mechanical tools) or maintenance of countryside recreational facilities; (iii) handling, restraining or catching of animals; (iv) work associated with fishing and fish rearing (including maintenance of relevant equipment); – and (c) be able to communicate in Cantonese/Chinese and simple English; read simple Chinese and simple English; and write simple Chinese or simple English.
