A Dental Officer is mainly deployed on giving dental care and performing administrative duties at dental clinic or dental unit in hospital or other institutions under the Department of Health [See Notes (3) & (4)].

Candidates should – (a) have been registered in Hong Kong under the Dentists Registration Ordinance; (b) have a valid practising certificate issued by the Dental Council of Hong Kong; (c) have met the language proficiency requirements (LPRs) of “Level 1” results in the two language papers [Use of Chinese (UC) and Use of English (UE)] in the Common Recruitment Examination (CRE), or equivalent [See Notes (1) & (2)]; and (d) be able to speak fluent Cantonese and English. Remarks: (i) Preference will be given to candidates with relevant experience in the specialties of Orthodontics or Endodontics, or to candidates who will have obtained a Master degree in the relevant specialty from the University of Hong Kong by the time of offer of appointment. (ii) Subject to the prevailing situation, candidates may be granted increments for relevant experience in the specialties of Orthodontics or Endodontics. (iii) Applications from serving Dental Officer would normally not be considered. (iv) Candidates who are expected to meet the entry requirements as stated in item (a) above in 2013 may also apply. (v) Candidates who meet all entry requirements except the Chinese LPRs as stated in item (c) above may also apply. (vi) Candidates without the requisite CRE result in UE as stated in item (c) above but having met the other entry requirements and taken the CRE held on 8 June 2013 may also apply. However, they will only be considered for appointment subject to their obtaining the requisite result in the aforesaid CRE. They should indicate “Pending result in CRE (UE) held on 8.6.2013” in Section I (Public Examination Results) under “Academic Attainment” in Page 2 of their application form.
