An Inspector of Police (Specialist) is mainly deployed on specialist duties in the engineering or science-related fields including the following:- (a) performing researches of various advanced technology systems to support communications and other technical projects; (b) developing algorithms to facilitate advanced technology; (c) designing hardware and software implementation for technical and operational applications; (d) designing and building prototypes for testing and evaluation; (e) providing technical assistance to field operation officers in the investigation of crimes; and (f) taking part in police operations. (Note:May be required to work irregular hours including evenings, weekends and public holidays, and will be subject to discipline under the Police Force Ordinance.)

Candidates should (a)(i) have a Bachelor degree from a Hong Kong university in an engineering or science-related field, or equivalent; and have met the language proficiency requirements of ‘Level 1’ results in the two language papers (Use of Chinese and Use of English) in the Common Recruitment Examination (CRE), or equivalent; [Note (2) to (4)] [Entry point: Police Pay Scale Point 25 ($40,225 per month)]; or (ii) have a Bachelor degree from a Hong Kong university, or an accredited Associate Degree from a Hong Kong tertiary institution, or a Higher Diploma from a Hong Kong polytechnic / polytechnic university / Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education / technical college, or a Diploma from a registered post-secondary college awarded after the date of its registration in an engineering or science-related field, or equivalent; and have met the language proficiency requirements of Level 2 [Note (6)] or above in Chinese Language and English Language in the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination (HKDSEE) or the Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination (HKCEE), or equivalent; [Entry point: Police Pay Scale Point 24($39,050 per month)]; or (iii) have level 3 or equivalent or above in five subjects in HKDSEE, or equivalent; or have Grade E or above in two subjects at Advanced Level in the Hong Kong Advanced Level Examination (HKALE) and Level 3/ Grade C or above in three other subjects in HKCEE, or equivalent; and have met the language proficiency requirements of Level 2 [Note (6)] or above in Chinese Language and English Language in HKDSEE or HKCEE, or equivalent; [Note (3) to (3b)] [Entry point: Police Pay Scale Point 23 ($37,885 per month)]; and (b) be able to speak fluent Cantonese and English; and (c) have 2 years’ research or working experience in an engineering or science-related field.
