Mainly deployed on inspections of vehicles to ensure their roadworthiness and compliance with the appropriate legislation; attending to appeals by vehicle owners and dealing with complicated cases regarding construction and maintenance of vehicle; investigating the cause of vehicle accidents; assisting in the management of an inspection centre; monitoring of contractor’s inspection quality; training of contractor’s staff; and other duties related to vehicle safety and regulations.

Candidates should

• (a)have satisfactorily completed a relevant approved technician apprenticeship, and have obtained a Higher Certificate in motor vehicle engineering from a Hong Kong polytechnic/polytechnic university or Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education, or equivalent;
• (b)have five years’ post-qualification experience (excluding apprenticeship) or three years’ post-qualification experience at supervisory level in the field of motor vehicle engineering including motor vehicle inspection; and
• (c)meet the language proficiency requirements of Level 2 (Note 1) or above in Chinese Language and English Language in the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination (HKDSEE) or Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination (HKCEE), or equivalent.
