A Student Engineering Laboratory Technician is mainly deployed on (i) undergoing training; and (ii) undertaking chemical, radiological, bacteriological and biological sampling, examination and analysis. (May be required to work in remote areas, work irregular hours or shifts.)

Candidates should have (a)(i) a Certificate in Chemical Technology from a Hong Kong polytechnic/polytechnic university, the Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education or technical college/technical institute, or equivalent; or (ii) Level 3 or above in Chemistry and Physics /Combined Science (Physics & Biology) and Level 2 or equivalent or above in three other subjects [Note 1, 2 ]in the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination (HKDSEE), or equivalent; or (iii) Grade C or above in Chemistry and Physics and Level 2/Grade E or above in three other subjects [Note 2, 3] in the Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination (HKCEE), or equivalent; and (b) met the language proficiency requirements of Level 2 or above in Chinese Language and English Language in HKDSEE or HKCEE, or equivalent [Note 3]. (Remarks : For the purpose of heightening public awareness of the Basic Law (BL) and promoting a culture of learning of BL in the community, applicants for civil service jobs will be assessed on their BL knowledge. The BL test result will constitute an appropriate weighting in a candidate’s overall assessment.)
