An Environmental Protection Officer (Air Modelling) (Air Stream) will be mainly deployed to work in air quality model-related areas to (a) develop, review and adapt numerical models to simulate the emission, dispersion, chemical transformation and deposition of air pollutants in Hong Kong; (b) analyse air quality monitoring data and air quality modelling data to assess Hong Kong’s air pollution problems on the local and regional scales; (c) support air quality management and policy formulation through applying appropriate air quality models; (d) provide air pollution modelling (numerical and physical) input on Environmental Reviews and Environmental Impact Assessments; (e) make daily air pollution index (API) forecast based on air quality model results and other relevant information; and (f) develop emission databases to support numerical simulations of air quality.

Candidates should have (a) (i) A Hong Kong First or Second Class honours degree, or equivalent, in a relevant science or engineering subject, and three years' post-graduate experience at an appropriate level of responsibility relevant to air pollution with at least one year relevant to the numerical simulations of fluid mechanics, atmospheric chemistry or pollutant effluent; or (ii) Corporate Membership of the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers of a relevant discipline elected after 5 December 1975, or equivalent, and three years' training or experience at an appropriate level of responsibility relevant to air pollution with at least one year relevant to the numerical simulations of fluid mechanics, atmospheric chemistry or pollutant effluent (not necessarily obtained after Membership); and (b) a pass result in the Aptitude Test (AT) in the Common Recruitment Examination (CRE); and (c) met the language proficiency requirements of ‘Level 2’ results in the two language papers [Use of Chinese (UC) and Use of English (UE)] in the CRE, or equivalent.
