A Technical Instructor (Carpentry) is mainly deployed on (a) acquainting with the duties of Instructor (Carpentry) in full and supervising subordinates in performing their duties; (b) training, instructing and supervising persons in custody in correctional facilities engaging in work activities of carpentry trade for producing hardwood furniture, panel and office furniture and other wooden items; (c) overseeing work processes including but not limited to material estimation, production planning and scheduling, quality assurance and work process control, machines and equipment operation and their general maintenance; (d) preparing vocational training materials and teaching related classes; (e) enforcing the Code of Practice of Occupational Safety & Health and related regulations; and (f) performing any other assigned duties.
(Note: Subject to the provisions of the Prisons Ordinance; the appointee may be required to wear uniform, work shifts, work in remote areas and live in departmental quarters.)

Candidates should (a) have completed an apprenticeship or institutional training in carpentry work, wooden furniture making or interior refurbishment; and be able to furnish evidence that they have had relevant working experience in carpentry work, wooden furniture making or interior refurbishment [Note 1 under Entry Requirements]. Total period of training and working experience should not be less than 10 years; (b) have attained a level of proficiency in Chinese and English Languages equivalent to Secondary 3 standard; and be able to speak fluent Cantonese and simple English; (c) undergo and pass a trade test in carpentry [Notes 2 under Entry Requirements]; and (d) have a pass result in the Basic Law and National Security Law Test [Note 3 under Entry Requirements].
